Newcastle COVID-19 Testing Lab: Jobs Recruitment Information Session

Connected Voice is hosting a recruitment information event on behalf of The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust on Wednesday 7 Oct, 3.30 - 4.30pm

The Trust is recruiting Laboratory Support Workers for the integrated COVID Hub - the first of its kind in the UK that will include a new Lighthouse Laboratory at Baltic Park in Gateshead. This will enable many more COVID-19 tests to be done in the region, and is expected to open in December 2020.

The Trust will have hundreds of jobs available in the role of Laboratory Support Worker. These will play a vital role in processing thousands of samples that will come into the lab for testing.

The Trust wants local people to benefit from these job opportunities, which will play an important part in supporting the region’s fight against the virus.

Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is managing the new hub and people working in the lab will be employees of Newcastle Hospitals.

The Trust is serious about supporting a diverse workforce that reflects our local community and is very much focused on providing an inclusive and compassionate place to work.

It is particularly keen to receive applications from people and communities who are often under-represented in applying for jobs within the Trust and the NHS, including:

  • Black and Asian people, and people with a minority ethnicity
  • People living with disabilities, hidden or visible
  • People with other protected characteristics
  • Those who have lost their employment during this pandemic
  • People who have been out of work for an extended period
  • Students, including those on 'sandwich' years.

Jobs are being advertised from 5 October 2020, and applications for this first phase of recruitment will be on 14 October.

This information session, delivered by Zoom, will provide more detail and guidance about these job opportunities and applications process.
